The opening ceremony of HKBU (Hong Kong Baptist University) - UIC (United International College) Shanghai Office was held in Fudan University on December 10th 2010. The establishment of this office aims to enhance educational communication and cooperation around the Yangtze River Delta.

Prof. Ng Ching-fai, President of UIC, made a speech on the ceremony. He expressed that HKBU-UIC Shanghai Office aims at promoting cultural exchange and educational cooperation between the Pearl River Delta and the Yangtze River Delta to achieve mutual development. Meanwhile, it offers a direct channel to acquaint students of Yangtze River Delta with the higher education model of Hong Kong and to know more about Whole Person Education, Liberal Education and Four-Points Education.

According to Prof. Ng, the functions of HKBU-UIC Shanghai Office can be described as follows: first, promotion of HKBU and UIC in Yangtze River Delta; second, build up a well-cooperative relationship with enterprises of Shanghai and surrounding areas to broaden employment channels for UIC graduates; third, carry out academic exchanges with colleges and universities in Shanghai as well as Eastern China area.
Prof. Albert Chan, President of HKBU, highly appreciated the development of UIC. He also introduced the development plan of HKBU in the coming decade, and addressed that UIC and HKBU would offer impetus for each other to make mutual progress.

The Interscholastic Communication Conference of Yangtze River Delta was held on the same day. Professors and scholars from reputable universities such as Fudan University, Tongji University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University attended the conference. Participants exchanged and discussed their views on innovation and future development of higher education. They also expressed interests in further cooperation with HKBU and UIC.
